Making the Correlation Between Emergency Preparedness and Blood Supply

After a major disaster the government may be able to provide some supplies after a disaster, usually they can provide trailers, ice, food, blankets to provide for an affected community, but they can not buy blood and platelets or replace a needed supply. Only the community itself can provide a well stocked supply by donating blood & platelets on a regular basis, unfortunately most people do not make the correlation between emergency preparedness and blood supply.

What Goes Into an Emergency Kit?

Stop fighting it and please just accept the basic common sense of having an emergency kit in your home and/or an emergency go bag sitting in the back of your front hall closet – just in case. It never hurts to be prepared. But with all the talk about emergency preparedness and the 72 hours it might take for help to arrive, a lot of people who are now sold on the idea of having an emergency kit at home are probably stuck when it gets to the question – what to put into it. So I’d like to offer you some ideas about what you need to find in a basic 72 hour (3 day) family emergency kit.

When to Use Water Fire Extinguishers

Water fire extinguishers are designed for use on organic fires only. Since water is a primary destructive source for fires, it would seem that water fire extinguishers would be suitable for all kinds of fires. If they were filled only with water, this might be true. Water fire extinguishers are filled with water and compressed oxygen. This means that if you use it on the wrong type of fire you will spread the fire faster because of the oxygen in the tank.

Fire Hose Installation

The installation of a fire hose is often left to professionals. The permanent installation of a fire house within a building or alongside a building requires specific code qualities, are best installed with standard widths for apparatus attachments, and need a strong water source for propelling water far enough to make the fire hose an asset. It’s not uncommon for a fire hose to spray foam instead of water, although storage considerations for foam do not make it viable solution for private buildings.

Fire Exit Signs – Helping You Find Your Way Out

You see several signages anywhere you go-traffic, road, building, and warning signs. Some are common yet sometimes hard to understand. Others are unusual and even much harder to recognize. However, trouble comes when they are common, well symbolized, and highly important signs, yet often disregarded and taken for granted.

The “Burning” Passion – Roles of Fire Engineers Discussed

Undoubtedly, fire is one of the major causes of disaster in the world. Whether car fires, house fires, building fires, or even forest fires, it will always become a life-threatening incident and a tragic experience to anyone caught in any of these situations.

Exit Signs – Everyone Needs a Point in the Right Direction

Emergency situations are always critical, often times the smallest details can make the largest differences. The amount of time an emergency response team takes to get from their headquarters to the site of emergency could mean the difference between life and death. Calamities may even be caused by a very simple thing that just got neglected and was blown out of proportion. Even the presence of exit signs could mean a great deal when someone is caught in an emergency situation.

The Case For Food Storage

When gas prices skyrocketed, all of the airlines were affected except Southwest Airlines. Southwest had purchased approximately ten years worth of fuel in advance so the price hike didn’t have nearly the impact on their business. Imagine if you could have stored 6 months worth of gasoline for your car when fuel was still under $2 a gallon.

When the Source of Your Cooking Tries to Heat You Up

Well who does not like to eat fried food, like those juicy fried chicken drumsticks or glowing fish chips? Nothing tastes better than that doesn’t it? But what if you were cooking something on your deep fryer and the cooking oil that you use was suddenly lighted up by your child? You scan the room to find that all you had was a powder fire extinguisher, the question is: will it work against that kind of fire? The answer is no.

When on a Skirmish Against a Foe Named Fire

How safe are you against fire? Are you that safe in your office, in your home or even in your favorite place to hang out? Don’t you get scared when you are at gasoline stations or just simply at abandoned warehouse where someone might accidentally or intentionally throw his/her cigarette on some random spot inside it? So, what do you do when you get face to face against the burning hands of fire? Surely, you will be enveloped with fear, but not to worry because there are a lot of fire-fighting devices out there, the most popular of which is the foam fire extinguisher due to its size and easy manageability.
